
On this day, 7th of September, 2011, a Yak-Service Flight 9634, a Yakovlev Yak-42, crashed outside Yaroslavl, Russia, due to pilot error, killing 44 of the 45 people on board. Many were players and staff on the KHL’s Lokomotiv Yaroslavl ice hockey team, as the flight was bound for Minsk, Belarus, for a league game.
